Vien Santiago (12th), Editor
Unapproachable. Never caffeinated. Lover of bitter melon. All words that have never been used to describe me. ☀️🌊
Good day, night, sunset, or sunrise to wherever you are! My name is Vien, I was born in the southern suburbs of Chicago, and I’m a senior here at Pitman. Outside of Journalism, you may have seen me throughout campus as Vice President of the Pan-Asian Heritage Society (I’m also Filipino!), helping out around school as a Pride Ambassador or the Teacher’s Assistant in B210, contributing to the Pride Equity Council’s mission of making everyone feel included at Pitman, or in Pitman Theatre’s last couple productions. I love storytelling and journalism is absolutely the place to be to do that and be able to create positive change through telling our truths. Outside of school, I write both journalistic and narrative pieces for Dear Asian Youth and Dear Asian Youth Literature – as well as creating screenplays for my and others’ ideas! I hope that you can watch my shows or films on the big and little screens in the future, as I hope to become a screenwriter after high school.
Always feel free to reach out to me if you have any concerns, questions, food recipes, music recs, travel destinations, or just need someone to talk to! I’m @vishisxn on Instagram and @vxxnsan on all other platforms :)
Remember, never settle, never quit, Roll Pride! 💚
