For 12 years you go through a mandatory school system, you have support, you have a holding hand to reach out to when you need it, but what happens after those 12 years?
College is a place where you no longer have someone hold your hand to help you along the way. You are suddenly paying for school, and you have a lot more stress on you.
Many professors don’t care whether you show up to school or not as long as they get paid. There are no more friend groups, popular kids, loners or athletic kids, – at least the same way we have them in high school – just a group of young adults trying to better their education.
The classes are harder, the stress multiplies, and sometimes, you have to deal with jobs. For some people the stress is too much, and it leads to them not wanting to continue their decision of college. Some people think college isn’t for them and for other people, college is everything.
Every person has a different opinion on college, let’s see what seniors around Pitman High School have to say for their college plans, and what they decide to be in the future.
“Are you going to be attending a college, if so which one?”
Omar Madriz: “Yes, I will be attending UC Merced.”
Emmanuel Rodriguez: “I’m gonna be attending TheousU in August.”
Vien Santiago: “I’m probably going to be going to UC Santa Barbara.
“What are your plans for college/what degree?”
Omar Madriz: “I am going to major in public health, with an emphasis in pre-med.”
Emmanuel Rodriguez: “I’m going into Biblical studies.”
Vien Santiago: “I’m going for film and media studies.”
Everybody seems to have different plans but at the end of the day whatever you decide to do with your future is up to you. Only you can determine how far you go and only you can determine how successful you can and will be.
Some students might decide to join the Army, or some might decide to go straight into a four-year college or maybe straight into the work field. No matter where they go, as long as they have a plan, they’ll be successful. College can be a really stressful and difficult time, but with the right support and the right strategy you will get through it just fine!
