There has been recent growth on social media about celebrity lookalike contests, and they’re kinda starting to get creepy. Multiple people join and take part of these just to be dubbed the closest looking to a certain celebrity.
These contests started getting popular on October 27th, 2024, because of YouTuber Anthony Po. The initial contest was with Timothee Chalamet, then later on into the day the Donald Trump lookalike contest started and got popular. This was before the presidential election which is how it got its humorous act.
The first and most viral contest has been the Timothee Chalamet lookalike contest, since so many people showed up. The real Timothee Chalamet even showed up to this contest just to lose to someone else who looked more like him than he himself did. The man who did win against him is Miles Mitchell. The “grand prize” he won was $50!
The event got so big that it had to be shut down by police officers themselves.
Another contest that was going viral is Beabadoobee’s online Zoom contest. The “leader” or host of the contest starts to ask the real Beabadoobee questions and starts to say that she looks very alike to the real artist. Beabadoobee was responding as if she wasn’t the real person herself.
“What are your opinions on the lookalike contests?”
Avleen Bassi, freshman at Pitman high school, “I think that they are completely useless and a waste of time because you’re never going to be the celebrity themselves. So it’s honestly just very pointless you know?”
Noor Pannu, sophomore at Pitman High School, “My opinion on celebrity look alike contests is that they are pretty entertaining to watch as everyone gets together and basically competes against each other.”
“Would you ever take part in the contests?”
Avleen Bassi, freshman at Pitman high school, “Maybe if I got paid like a lot of money I would, I guess join the contests. I still think they’re weird though.
Noor Pannu, sophomore at Pitman High School, “I feel like I would join one of these contests if I’m for sure that I resemble the celebrity so I don’t just embarrass myself because it would be a fun experience.”
We’ve had good opinions and bad opinions on these contests. Some might agree that they are fun and entertaining, while others argue that they are creepy and that they should be stopped.
What do you think about these celebrity lookalike contests? How do you think celebrities feel about them? Would you join these contests? I hope that these will soon have a stop to them before they get too hectic and get banned due to how many people are exposed to them.
