”Join us for the 50th Annual Turkey Trot Fun Run on November 23rd, 2024, at Donnelly Park! We’re excited to celebrate this milestone with you! This year, we’re adding a fun new option: the 1-Mile Walk! This addition is all about enjoyment—no age category prizes for this walk.”
Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each age category. All participants will be entered into an opportunity drawing as well for participation in the race. It is a great and safe community event for all ages. Everyone is welcome.
I asked these questions with a bit of help from Mrs. Hall getting in contact with Mark Crivelli- he runs the turkey trot:
Me: ”What year did the Turkey Trot begin?”
Mark: “Turkey Trot started 50 years ago, in 1974.”
Me: “What is your thought on having the Turkey Trot run every year?”
Mark: “We look forward to these great Community Event every year. It is a great way to prepare for the Thanksgiving Holiday which is always the Thursday after the event.”
Me: ”Do you think the event makes a difference in our community? If so, how?”
Mark: ”We promote the Turkey Trot as a Community Event so we feel it definitely helps the community. We have 14 local businesses/sponsors that help support the event and in turn we put their business name/logo on our advertising so that the community can support those businesses as well.“
Me: Where does the money raised go to?
Mark: “The Turkey Trot money goes right back into the program. With supplies/awards/staffing, costs are high, so we look for sponsors to help offset some of those expenses.”
Mrs. Hall: What is the average number of participants who sign up to run each year?
Mark: Typically between 250 and 275 participants each year. Ages range from toddlers to seniors. Last year we had two participants who were in their 70’s participate.
Mrs.Hall:How long is the race (distance)?
Him:We have 3 events at the Turkey Trot this year.
1-mile race for participants 12 and under
2-mile race for participants 13 and older
1-mile walk (not a race) for participants 13 and older who just want to walk and not compete
Mrs. Hall:Any other information you’d like to share?
Mark:We are excited to offer the 50th annual Turkey Trot this year. To be able to offer a program like this for 50 years says a lot about our community.
Also, a fun fact about our event. We give away frozen turkeys, frozen chickens and flats of eggs to racers to hopefully assist families with their Thanksgiving dinner needs.
Even if you don’t think you’ll win, it’s worth a try. If you try and you don’t win, at least you can say you tried. “When you do your best you ca-, I done told you When you do your best, hell, that’s all you can do. You, me and anybody else” -Travis Scott. No person is too big or too small to get up and try.
The race is all about enjoyment, no age category prizes for walking. Sadly by now, the deadline is already due to sign up. For additional questions about the Turkey Trot, please contact: Recreation Division 144 S. Broadway Turlock, CA 95380 (209) 668-5594 Monday – Friday, 8AM – 5PM.
