Soon to be President, Trump will be ending birthrights in the U.S. He said he would end birth rights day one in office.
Birthright citizenship essentially means that anyone born in the US automatically becomes a US citizen, which includes children of undocumented immigrants or tourists and students on short-term visas.
However, he said he would not be separating families. He said “I don’t want to be breaking up families, so the only way you don’t break up a family is keeping them together.”
He also said “This would mean expelling U.S. citizens-Ostensibly so that their families are not separated.” So, if an immigrant were to be deported, he would deport the whole family.
Deportation with one family member depends on if the family wants one to go out or all of them to go out together.
Trump believes that birthright citizenship is “ridiculous.” He says “we U.S. citizens have to end it.” He says “we are the only state with a birthright policy.” However, this is misinformation.
The fourteenth amendment states of the constitution is the bedrock of the country’s approach to citizenship. It guarantees birthright citizenship. It was ratified in 1868.
The first section of the amendment says: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” This would be regardless of their parents citizenship status.
So, can Trump really end birthright citizenship? He was talked to and asked about the 14th amendment, and asked whether he can beat around the law.
Trump replied “Well, we are going to have to make some changes.” He also stated “But we have to end it.” He will have to go through executive action.
President Trump believes this is a must, to deport all, but he will first start with deporting criminals. “During President Joe Biden’s time of presidency, a lot of “unauthorized immigrants” have came into the U.S.”
In conclusion, his opinion on birthright in the U.S. is a big issue. On the other hand I believe it should be allowed and it is nearly impossible for him to go through with this plan of ending “birthright.”
Even if he did, it’d take a while to get the birthright law to get taken away. He would have to go through a lot of paperwork and executives.
