Palestine and Israel have been in a conflict since 1948. Each and every person has their own view on this conflict. Vice President Kamala Harris, now the Democratic nominee for president, has said some remarkable words about where she stands between the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the war currently going on.
Harris says she will stand up for Israel to defend itself, “Let me be clear, I will always stand up for Israel’s right to defend itself, and I will always ensure Israel has the ability to defend itself” (Kamala Harris). As shown on CNN, Harris also said she doesn’t want Israel to go through the horror and horrible acts of October 7, 2023.
October 7th, 2023 is the day Hamas, a terrorist group, raided Israel killing many people and taking in hostages. Israel was attacked that day and many innocent children and people lost their lives and many others were taken hostage. About 1, 195 innocent civilians in Israel lost their lives that day due to that attack.
According to Al Jazeera, about 40,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 7th of last year, mostly civilians and children under 10 years old. More than 2.3 million have been driven out of their homes. On September 12th, 2024 Israel attacked a UN-run school in Gaza that was sheltering about 12,000 displaced Palestinians, killing 18.
Israel has done this before and they’re saying that people from Hamas were there, yet half the people that died were kids. Israel’s war on Gaza has devastated the Palestinian’s enclave economy, reducing it to less than one-sixth of its 2022 size.
There are kids who have been interviewed in Palestine and a question was asked, ”What do you dream of?” About eight kids came to answer. One of them said, “I dream of eating fresh bread.” Another kid was asked and he replied “I dream about seeing my brother one last time.” Many started saying, “I dream of going to school,” ”I dream of eating sugar,” “I dream of having a warm place to sleep in at night.”
All of these children wanted simple stuff that the world couldn’t provide for them. Why are these kids suffering? Is it their fault they have to go through this pain at such a young age? These innocent children should be attending school, living a simple life like every normal child out there. Many Israeli children also lost their lives. It’s a horrible war for both sides. Many civilians on each side just want peace.
Their land has been occupied for many years yet they still have hope and faith in seeing their land freed before their lives are taken. A child shouldn’t be worrying about being bombed while going on a walk or whether they are going to sleep in a warm place tonight. Their childhood has been taken from them at such a young age. Is it so hard to give them peace?
