Pride Time is the period before lunch and after third period. Everyday aside from Wednesday or shorter days, you have to schedule what classroom you want to go to for that period.
You do this using the “Enriching Students” website. This can be super beneficial if you have work you need to catch up on, but annoying if you don’t.
Personally, we had something like this at my old school. It was called “seminar” or “advisory” and you would have an assigned homeroom, similar to here, and you could get requested to classes. I think being able to schedule a class you need on your own is more efficient, which they do here, but if you didn’t sign up for anything, you’d just stay in your homeroom.
Homeroom is a class where there’s not a specific subject being taught, just a class where they go over any school news or events. This makes a lot more sense to me, instead of being sent to “The Pit”.
Being a new student, I was honestly scared of the term “The Pit”… and I did everything possible to make sure I didn’t get sent there. It sounded like this scary thing to me, but in reality, you just sit in the cafeteria.
I interviewed Richie Ware, a senior at Pitman High school. He’s attended this school all four years, so I know he has some past knowledge and experience with Pride Times.
How do you feel about Pride Time?
“I mean it’s fun because you can pick which class to go to.”
Do you think it’s beneficial for you?
“Yes, it’s definitely beneficial because it’s saved me from having lots of late work.’
Do you ever forget to schedule a pride time and have to be sent to the pit? How often?
“Yes, I forget to, and I’ve been sent to the pit. I haven’t been sent there this year, but twice last year.”
As a new student, I felt I should’ve asked some questions regarding prior Pride Time qualities.
Has Pride Time always been a thing at Pitman? Was it introduced more recently?
“Yes, it has. It was stopped during my sophomore year due to COVID, but they put it back.”
What exactly happens when you don’t sign up for a Pride Time?
“The Pit is in the cafeteria. People go there if they get kicked out of the class they signed up for, or if you don’t sign up at all”
Overall, pride time is pretty beneficial if you’ve got late work to catch up on. If you don’t have any, it can feel like a drag to find a random pride time to get requested into. For new students, the process might be a little overwhelming, having to remember it everyday.
