Pitman Girls Flag Football has made an unforgettable first season.
Capturing the eyes of the community all through dedication, sportsmanship, skill, and passion. Being one of the few high schools in the area to offer flag football for girls, Pitman High’s Flag Football team is surely a force to be reckoned with.
With girls from all different grades, they established Frosh/Soph, JV, and Varsity teams. Led by Coaches Matthew Vasconcellos, Adam Vasconcellos, and Joseph Olivera. These ladies have not only demonstrated their athletic ability, but also the ability to strategize and work around their competition.
The athletes came out during the 110+ degree weather during summer to practice. As well as the cold nights where you could see your own breath. Varsity’s record was 18-2, JVs record was 11-1-3, and last Frosh was 5-1. Across all 3 levels that’s a combined win of 34 wins and 4 losses. Varsity girls placed first in CCAL, while JV earned runner up.
The amount of effort and dedication these girls have put in has shown. Girls flag football was an allowed ability to showcase their talent. With the help of everyone who has taken their time and been involved, it truly is a blessing.
The schools in the CCAL were Modesto, Enochs, Gregori, Downey, and Turlock. Each game against these schools was a competitive match of its own. As well as the Orestimba Tournament. In fact, Varsity had also come out on top of the 2024 Orestimba Run and Shoot Tournament. It was a very exciting moment for everyone. The team left Orestimba with a happy team, and proud coaches. It was overall a great feeling.
Especially for it being Pitman’s first year, these girls brought us justice. These athletes have not gone unnoticed. Many of Pitmans attending students, staff, and parents go out and support the girls. As well as all the Pitman staff and parents who spend their time and money to buy stuff and donate to the team. The enthusiasm and support from the community have created a positive and joyful atmosphere. It makes such an unforgettable feeling for the fans, even more so the players.
As the season will progress through later years, Pitman Girls Flag Football will continue to thrive and strive for excellence. We aim to inspire future female athletes to come and join our ride. With the remarkable first season, we have a high standard set to achieve the same, and possibly even better for the remaining years to come.
