As winter approaches, so do the winter sports! The winter sports season holds many different sports for our Pitman High athletes! Here at Pitman High during the winter season we offer Boys and Girls basketball, Boys and Girl soccer, and Boys and Girls wrestling! Here at Pitman we have a sport for all of our athletes’ liking!
One of the most famous sports not just here at Pitman High but all around the world is soccer! Our boys soccer team varsity coach is Manuel Romero, and for our girls varsity team Denise Romo is the head varsity coach! Last year the girls varsity team had an outstanding season with a 10-4-4 overall record!
Here is what Desire Lopez, a Senior here at Pitman, has to say about this year’s upcoming Soccer season!
“This year I can’t wait to have a good season, since it’s my last year being in high school and my last year playing for the school soccer team. I really want it to be an amazing season for not just me but for all of my teammates this year!
Last year I had a blast with all the girls, the bus rides to away games were the best and especially winning our games was also the best. If you enjoy playing soccer and want to come out and try out I highly suggest you do so because you will make some of the bestest friends and some of the best memories ever!”
Another sport Pitman has to offer for the winter season is boys and girls basketball! For both boys and girls basketball Pitman has a Frosh/Soph, JV, and varsity teams for their Pitman basketball players, or any Pitman high student wanting to come tryout for!
Our Pitman basketball games are located in the gym Starting 4:30 for frosh/soph, 6:00 JV, and 7:30 Varsity. Make sure you come out this Basketball season and support our teams!
This is what Daniel Lopez, a freshman attending Pitman High has to say about the upcoming basketball season.
“I am super excited for this season, I have been training all year long waiting for this upcoming season so I am really excited. I played in the summer league with the Pitman JV team and we did great. I am looking forward to this season for the hyped crowd and the intense games.
I also am excited to play basketball this season with some of my friends that I didn’t get to play with last year, since we were attending different middle schools or they were already at Pitman. Basketball is a very good sport because it keeps you fit and healthy and you can make life long bonds over basketball and make amazing friendships!”
The last sport Pitman has to offer during the winter sport season is boys and girls wrestling. Adam and Matt Vasconcellos are the Pitman boys and girls varsity wrestling coaches.
Wrestling is one of our top ranked sports here at Pitman. Last year we had many pitman wrestlers advance to nationals and even state. Pitman is ranked 7th in the whole state for wrestling!
Last year we had one student win a state championship. Lilly Avalos took home the state championship last year at the annual Barkersfield state tournament!
Our Pitman High wrestling program really is the best, if there are any Pitman wrestlers or any athletes that are wanting to come try out make sure you do!
Our winter sports are really coming up fast so let’s make sure we come out this winter season and show support and school spirit!
