What rapper comes to mind when you think of your favorite? For many it’s Drake. 37 year old Aubrey Drake Graham is one of the most successful rappers out there. Born on October, 24th 1986, Drake, who is driven by respect, loyalty and realness grew up in Toronto, Ontario. His father was also a musician and was a drummer in his very own band. Surrounded by music growing up, Drake was influenced to be a rapper. Before his rapping career, Drake was an actor. He starred in ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation” and was scouted by his school friend. In 2008 he left the show and in 2006 he released his first mixtape.
In 2009 Drake had his first breakthrough. His single “Best I Ever Had” brought stardom and popularity to him. This was the beginning of his impressive and accomplished career. From then, Drake had established a name for himself. Not only was his music career impressive but he had game. In 2009 along with his hit single, He dated R&B and femininity driven stars, Rihanna and SZA. In 2010 he released “Thank Me Later” after getting signed with Young Money. A year later he released “Take Care” featuring “Marvin’s Room”. This album got him a Grammy.
In 2015 Drake released “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” which hit platinum even though there was no announcement about it prior. Drake always kept his fans entertained, especially with his music video for “Hotline Bling” which reached over a billion views. Then in 2016 Drake came out with “One Dance”, which took the world by a storm. Continuing on, Drake ongoingly and still surprises the world. I interviewed Freshman Landon Arrizon on his perspective on Drake. My first question was, “Do you like Drake?” to which Landon answered “Yes”. The next question I asked was what his favorite Drake album was and he said “Honestly, nevermind.” I then asked him about how Drake influenced him, and responded with, “Drake helps me when I don’t know what to do. He shows me what to do in tough situations.” His favorite Drake song is “Knife Talk” and the song that got Landon into Drake was “Jimmy Cooks.”
