Being in the present requires a perfect blend of mindfulness and mindlessness. You’re probably thinking to yourself, “why bother being in the present?¨ Being present means fully enjoying the moment you are in. It is a moment filled with calmness where you know exactly what you want. You are focused on what you are doing rather than anything else. One of the main differences a person would be able to tell is being more happy overall. As humans we tend to be sorrowful on what has passed, and overthink for what’s to come and that results in being distressed and unhappy.
There are some exciting events that come in our life which we yearn for and wish for to come faster, but that doesn’t mean you give up the happiness of the current moment for what is still yet to come. Nothing is promised and nothing is ever going to be promised, thinking of that alone is scary. What if your whole life you were so eager to grow up or work in a specific place or do anything that would take many years of your life but you totally forgot about being mindful. Not only do you feel better about yourself if you implement situational awareness at any moment, there are benefits alongside it.
Being in the present has many benefits such as reduced stress, enhanced focus, boosts emotional intelligence and helps you manage your anxiety. Though you might not understand the value of the “Now,” it is much more valuable than you think. Being in the present also means letting go of the worries about the past and truly immersing yourself in what is happening right in front of you. When you’re present, you can appreciate the small details, find joy in simple moments, and feel more connected to yourself and those around you. It’s almost like hitting the pause button on the chaos of life and just taking a deep breath to savor the current experience.
By doing this, you can enhance your overall being. There are ways to use the present moment to stop worrying. A person can do things like cultivate unselfconsciousness: let go and stop thinking about your performance, practice savoring: avoid worrying about the future by completely shutting off your thoughts about it or distracting yourself, and focus on your breath: allow your intention, attention and attitude to make you more peaceful and smooth with your interactions with other. There are many other ways to feel the moment you are deeply. Some ways could be engaging in conversations, savoring the taste of your food, feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin, and appreciating the beauty of the world.
A favorite quote of mine, ¨Stop acting as if life is a rehearsal. Live this day as if it was your last. The past is over and gone. The future is not guaranteed¨ by Wayne Dyer. This quote speaks volumes and really shows us the value of now.
