Every year, the Super Bowl comes with its conspiracy theories. Of course, every year the idea that the game was rigged comes up. Taylor Swift’s presence in the NFL this year has led to some backlash and crazy theories.
The number one and most popular conspiracy theory is that Taylor Swift rigged the game in the Chiefs favor. Right winged figures are spreading the notion that she is part of a psychological plot performed by the NFL and the Democratic Party to move the 2024 presidential election in Biden’s favor. The hate towards Taylor has been building for months, with her attendance at the Chiefs games. People are hating that she is constantly shown on the camera and have started believing that her relationship with Kelce is a political publicity stunt. The conspiracy is based on Taylors public endorsement of Biden in the 2020 election, and that he asked for her support again this year. A quote from Vivek Ramaswamy, a candidate for the 2024 US presidential election, states that, “…I wonder if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped up couple this fall.” All of this contributes to the conspiracy that Taylor rigged the game to endorse and rig the election in Biden’s favor.
The next theory is connected to the last one. Joe Biden made a post on X with an edited photo of himself with red glowing eyes. The caption of the post reads, “Just like we drew it up.” This was posted right after the Chiefs won the game. This was obviously a joke post to make fun of the people that really believe that the Super Bowl is politically motivated or controlled. But people took this seriously and took it too far.
The last theory from the 2024 game is that Ice Spice is satanic. This theory stems from a moment where she was shown on the screen and she flashed a “demonic” hand signal at the camera. The hand signal was actually the harmless “devil horns” signal. This hand motion was created by Gene Simmons, from the rock band KISS. She also wore a supposed upside down cross, a common symbol of satanism. People saw these 2 things and ran with them. They spread this all over social media, and it went viral. These theories have been debunked, and the “upside down cross” was actually a Greek equal armed cross designed by Alex Moss. The belief that the upside down cross is a sign of satanism is more rumor than it is true. The upside down cross is a common symbol in Catholicism.
The Super Bowl always has conspiracy theories every year, but they seem to be getting more politically motivated and aggressive. This shows how divided the US is politically because politics even comes into things like sports games and celebrity relationships.
