Do you enjoy the thrill of scary movies? If you do, I’m sure you’ll enjoy Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights! It’s as if you’re starring in your favorite scary movies. It begins on September 7th running all the way through till October 31st. Halloween Horror Nights began in October of 1991. Starting as a three day event with only one single haunted house in Universal Studios of Orlando. The original name being “Fright Nights” changed to Halloween Horror Nights in 1992. There have been many changes throughout the years to the Horror Nights. They have expanded the amount of Horror Night attractions and taken Horror Nights to Universal Studios in Hollywood.
As of now there are a total of 8 haunted houses compared to the one that Horror Nights began with! As well as three scare zones, The Terror Tram, and two spooky shows. Universal also keeps open the same rides and attractions that are open all year long. However, they are decorated to match the theme of the Horror Nights. The park also has spooky themed foods and drinks. This includes the Rotting Pumpkin, a pumpkin spice crème Brule garnished with buttercream leaves and a Graveyard Coffee Cake. To continue on with drinks there is the Voodoo Brewing Co. Lacto- Kooler, Ghoul Juice and many more.
The theme for this years spooky experiences are:
- “The Last of Us”
- “Stranger Things”
- “The Exorcist Believer”
- Universal Monsters: Unmasked
- Chucky: Ultimate Kill Count
- “Evil Dead Rise”
- Monstruos: The Monsters of Latin America
- Holiday in Hell
- Terror Tram…The Exterminatorz
Expanding on some of these spooky experiences starting with the Terror Tram is the night time version of the Universal Backlot Tour. This year the bugs are taking over. Starting his own company and leading his insects, your tour guide Larry Larva is out to get rid of all humans for destroying the planet.
During your visit there will also be creepy characters walking around scaring you. These are paid actors that are meant to scare you and the other visitors at the park. Some of these characters include Dr. Jekyll, Mr Hyde, the Phantom of the Opera, the Hunchback of Notre Dame and the Invisible Man.
Here are some thoughts on the Horror Nights experience from a sophomore here at Pitman, Emma Jackson. She has recently visited Universal for the Horror Night extravaganza, for her second time. Overall her favorite haunted maze was The Exorcist she claimed that it was, “very life-like and scary.” To add to this she said that “she had to hang onto her best friend for dear life it was so scary.” To conclude her thoughts she thought that overall it was a fun time and it was really interesting to see all the costumes and actors. One final thought from Emma is, “I highly recommend going and seeing everything if you’re interested in scary movies and horror overall.
Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights are a great way to live out your horrifying dreams. It is a highly recommended experience from many people. It’s a popular way for people who love scary movies, or are interested in horror to enjoy something that they really like. After hearing a perspective from someone who has been multiple times do you think you would take the risk of going to Horror Nights?
