What made you want to become a teacher?
I wanted to become a teacher because I enjoy working with kids, specifically teenagers, who have a mind of their own and can think for themselves. They never cease to amaze me with their outlook in life and their views of the world.
What keeps you interested in your job? Does it ever get boring?
My job never gets boring. I work with some incredible colleagues that are supportive and encouraging, and I get to interact with my students daily. Learning their stories, interests, and things they aspire toward – it is all fascinating watching them learn and grow into confident graduates.
Do you have any hobbies that you would have pursued if you hadn’t become a teacher?
I have several hobbies: reading, writing, hiking, making pottery, and raising two Golden Retrievers, Willow and Kai. I don’t know that I would have pursued any of these instead of teaching, but they have certainly enriched my life and provided inspiration along the way.
Have you ever taught any other grades, if so, what grades?
I have only taught 11th and 12th grades here at Pitman. This is my 12th year of being a member of the Pride.
