Fashion trends vary from season to season and year to year. There are lots of deciding factors that go into what influences and brings us to our own unique fashion sense. One of these deciding factors is the seasons and the colors that are typically associated with the seasons. Summer brings very bright, vibrant colors, while fall to winter brings cooler toned colors. Another one of these factors is the environment you live in or your culture. Many fashion trends start in a specific place and transition to other parts of the world. People also have a big impact on what we feel is fashionable, lots of trends start with influencers and what they are wearing.
One part of the world that is very big on fashion is New York, so much so that they even have a New York Fashion Week! Many big artists and influencers participate in Fashion Week. This year these influencers, artists would include Meredith Duxbury, Alix Earle, Dylan Mulvaney and many more. Because of the large platform influencers have, they hold a lot of power over the trending ideas of fashion. They are able to help us come to the decision about what we think is or is not fashionable.
Once the weather changes our style does as well to some extent. As stated previously, the weather and the season you’re in has a big impact on your color pallet for your sense of fashion. A hot spring and summer color palette is typically pastels, greens, purples and pinks or vibrant colors like yellows, reds, and oranges. These are all very cool toned colors. However Fall and Winter color pallets are typically warmer toned colors like, dark reds, browns, beige, burnt orange, royal blue and even emerald green.
Some people might not let a social presence influence their fashion choices, however, their culture might instead. For example, certain cultures have a specific dress code like Saudi Arabia. The local laws require both men and women to dress modestly, keeping their knees and shoulders covered in public. They must avoid tight fitted clothing, or clothing with profane languages or images. This is not the only culture with a specific dress code, just one of many examples.
There are a variety of fashionable students here at Pitman, when asking them what influences their fashion choices here were some of the responses. Emily Musgrave, a sophomore here at Pitman said,
“My fashion sense has been influenced by my Pinterest boards. I’m always looking for new ideas and I find new pieces to put together,” To add to this she said, “I prefer winter clothes over summer. It’s too hot here during the summer for super cute clothes, but during winter you can layer items and have the cutest, coziest outfit combos.”
Overall, there are lots of different factors that play into deciding what you choose to be your fashion sense. The year, the season, weather, culture and plenty more. Although there are many categories of fashion like Y2k, vintage, streetwear etc., everyone has their own unique style that could play into one of the many fashion categories.
