Mental health is important; it can affect how people think, feel and behave. It can eventually change someone into someone they are not; they’re personality could be different as well as their physical appearance.
There are different types of mental health issues such as mood, anxiety, personality, psychotic disorders and lots more. A lot of people seem to think that mental health only affects certain people but that is false. Mental health can affect everyone and anyone even if they’re not the one dealing with mental health problems. The people around you can affect your mood by the struggles they are facing and how their mood has changed.
Yoga has tons of benefits not only physically, but also can help manage stress and most importantly can help improve a person’s mental well being. Yoga creates mental clarity, relieves stress, sharpens concentration and more. Not only that but people find yoga incredibly easy, fun and relaxing. A plus to yoga is that you can do it practically anywhere, your bedroom, your back yard, the park, there really isn’t a specific place but there are yoga sessions almost everywhere, and on YouTube you can find almost any type of yoga sessions.
Sleep isn’t only important to improve mental health disorders and lower depression but it’s also good to improve your learning skills, problem solving skills, paying attention and being creative. Not sleeping enough as a teen can impact mental well being, increase risk of well being, anxiety, low self-esteem levels and affect your academic performance at school.
I interviewed an amazing 9th grade English teacher Jessica Insell. Mrs. Insell recently started meditating and says, “The first 5 minutes when I wake up I try to clear my mind, and just get into a clear mind space and that usually helps me and gets me ready for the day.”
Another thing Mrs. Insell mentions that she dedicates one day a month for herself which is super important to do, she takes a day off and does different things for herself each month. She would do some yard work, hang out with a friend or family member, and sometimes she’ll do nothing – just lay down and watch her favorite series of movies, Harry Potter.
She also said that sometimes she will read a fiction book to help her escape and get some space away from reality, which isn’t always a bad thing. Recently she has been reading non-fiction books to change her perspective in life and grow to be a better person.
Mental health is important, if you are struggling with your mental health please talk to someone. Remember that it doesn’t only affect you but also the people around you.
