Advice for Incoming Freshmen and Underclassmen

Makayla Fink (12th), Reporter

The school year is slowly coming to an end within the next 2 months, and us seniors are leaving which means there will be a new freshmen class. The new upcoming freshmen class is the “ Class of 2027” which is a crazy thing to say!

As seniors I feel like there is so much life and high school advice we can be giving to these new freshmen and even new students or underclassmen in high school and here at Pitman High .

Advice from me, Makayla Fink, a senior here at Pitman High,

Stay organized: Most of us start our school year really organized but, as we go on in the year our backpack gets really messy, we lose so many school supplies and we start mixing our class work with others, so here are some things that could help !

  • Clean out your backpack once every couple months or at the end of every quarter. Take out trash or  papers that you don’t need anymore.
  • Get new school supplies at the beginning of each quarter. More pens, pencils, paper,or notebooks.
  • Make as many friends as you can and be friendly to everyone because it’s so important to have good friendships in high school and you will meet so many new people.
  • Get involved with your school. You can do a sport or join clubs. Not only will you make so many great friends but it also looks good when you go to college.
  • Don’t procrastinate. Make sure you’re getting your work done when your teacher gives it to you and get it turned in when it’s done so that way you’re not stressing over late work before the quarter ends.

One person I interviewed was Sofia Higle, a senior at Pitman.

What piece of advice was given to you as a freshman that has stuck with you till today?

“The advice I got when I was a freshman was to cherish every moment in high school, to take the risk, join the clubs and sports you want to do and don’t wait to do it, most importantly to enjoy high school cause it flies by fast.” Higle stated

What are 3 pieces of advice you would give to the upcoming freshmen and or underclassmen?

“ Some advice I would give to underclassmen is to go out to every school activity, be in love with things in school such as sports and clubs, and cherish every moment.” Said Higle

I also Interviewed Monica Briones, who is also a Senior here at Pitman High.

What is the advice an upperclassman or somebody older than you, gave to you in your freshman year?

“ The main advice I got my freshman year from upperclassmen was to take myself less seriously and really enjoy finding yourself in high school. Your freshman year is the perfect time to try new things and meet new people.” Said Briones

What are 3 pieces of advice you would give to the incoming freshmen?

“ The advice I would give to incoming freshmen is let yourself have fun, don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself, and join clubs! There are so many clubs on campus, you are bound to find your people, you just have to put yourself out there.” Briones stated.

I think that there is so much great advice in this article for the new freshmen, and I hope it is helpful.I hope that the class of 2027 have the best first year of high school and the best high school experience because it really is a great time of your life.
