Boys Volleyball

Cionna Washington (10th), Reporter

Boys volleyball just became a sport at Pitman High School. The first home game will be March 17th.  Their first tournament was in Orestimba on Saturday, February 25 and the boys placed first in the Copper Division.

There were more than 40 boys who tried out for this first ever league at PHS.  The names of those who made the team are: Harrison Day, Simer Deep, Dominic Harper, Alex Saavedra, Colin Silveira, Seth Vink, Joe Zamora, Adam Quezada, Farid Shirzad, Kenshin Williams, Zander Catlett, Tristan Fuentes, David Garcia, Param Gill, and Chris Navarette. The managers’ names are Stefany Perez, Carter Ippolito, and Diego Cepeda.

I asked Volleyball coach, Kristen Pontes-Christian, “I heard that you weren’t supposed to be the coach at first, but since they couldn’t find one you were given the job. Do you find it difficult being the coach?”

She stated, “That is correct.  It is not that I didn’t want to coach the boys, but I also run Turlock Crush Volleyball Club in the off-season of the girl’s high school season, so it’s dealing with the lack of time.  My own 2 kids at home are very busy with activities too and I like to be involved with them as much as I can.  So far though, it has been very fun.”

With a new boy’s sport to hit the central valley – many would say it’s long overdue – let’s help support them by cheering them on at their games!
