Known for his song “Mixed Personalities” with Kanye West and “Murder On My Mind”, YNW Melly recently got arrested for a count of two first degree murders on February 13. YNW Melly’s real name is Jamell Maurice Demons, which is somewhat ironic with the given situation.

Melly has had a past in the Florida prison system. Before his arrest on February 13, he had previously been arrested several times.

In the genius video for the song “Murder on My Mind”, Melly explains what he meant by the chorus in a very awkward way almost making it evident that the song was about himself. The song “Murder On My Mind” is about committing murder in a catchy tune. Melly also made another song called “Mind On My Murder”. This song is about being murdered from the eyes of a ten year old.

Alongside Melly there was YNW Bortlen. They both are from Miami, Florida where they both shot and killed two of their friends. They displayed the crime as a drive by when really it was premeditated murder.

YNW Bortlen alongside to Melly got charged with two counts of murder plus two counts of accessory. Melly was the shooter and Bortlen was the accomplice.

Melly is quite a popular artist which is why his murders were such a big deal. A month before the shooting Melly came out with the  the album “We All Shine.”

In an interview with a Pitman student who would like to remain anonymous because “the subject is too touchy” said, after being asked if they still listen to YNW Melly, stated that, “yes in fact I have.”  They said “no matter the crime, I will continue listening to him. I am not a weakling. Free Melly.” Even though Melly is from Florida, he still has fans from across the country.

YNW Melly has spoken in the past about how he has multiple personality disorder like in the song “Mixed Personalities”. So far he has identified several personalities. He has Melly and Melvin. Melvin is the personality that loves murder. He said “I only let him out at night time, and I need to stop doing that.”

Melly has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and ADHD. He also has a past with depression, he has been examined with the Baker Act. The Baker Act is an examination when someone shows signs of self harm and mental illness. The examination can last up to 72 hours.

He stated that he saw his first gun when he was 9.  It has been reported in his documentary that he carried his uncle’s gun to school at the young age of 14. Melvin has a fascination with guns; he stated, “ever since then I was addicted to them.” He also said that “you should never point them at a friend.”

The case is to be determined because of questions about Melly’s mental state. He speaks about how he has been in mourning but is the one who committed the murders. “We want y’all to remember it’s a YNW  family I love you YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy”.

The outcome is to be determined but it seems as if he will get a mental examination or be put into jail for two counts of murder.
