MLB Spring Training and News
March 28, 2018
Major League Baseball is already back in action, with spring training in session.
For the American League, the Houston Astros are leading in the division with 17 wins and only 7 losses. While the Milwaukee Brewers lead the National League with 17 wins and 8 losses.
At the bottom of the list for the American League, the Texas Rangers, who have won 7 games and lost 18. For the National League, the New York Mets trail behind with 8 wins and 16 losses.
Many changes are being made this season within the teams of the MLB. From Yu Darvish signing a 6-year contract with the Chicago Cubs, to Shohei Ohtani signing with the Los Angeles Angels.
We are excited to see how these athletes play with their new team.
As expected, some players have been injured in the time from last season to now. Amongst the list is Justin Turner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who has a hurt wrist, Matt Carpenter of the Cardinals, who had some back issues, and Jeff Samardzija of the San Francisco Giants, who hurt his right shoulder.
All three of these players are due to return opening day, hopefully, along with plenty of other injured athletes.
Some players aren’t so lucky, like; Cody Anderson of the Indians, who had a surgery in 2017, Koda Glover of the Nationals, who suffered a right shoulder inflammation, and Mark Trumbo of the Orioles, who strained his right quad.
These players, and many more, are either not determined or their due back date is later in the season.
Major League Baseball is a competitive environment, like all professional sports, so it is no surprise that every team is working hard in spring training to make this 2018 season one for the books.
When asked about what the biggest challenge his team is going to face, Aaron Boone, manager of the New York Yankees, states, “As far as the biggest challenge, you know, in Spring Training it’s about just getting these guys, as individuals, ready to play. And, you know, i think that it’s a little bit different for each guy…i think that’s the biggest challenge, really tapping in to each guy.”
With athletes all playing towards one grand end goal, this 2018 baseball season is sure to be a good one. The season begins on March 29th.
