On January 28th, 2018, Maze Runner: The Death Cure was released and it was the film to conclude the Maze Runner trilogy. After a three year delay, based on James Dashner’s best selling dystopian novels, The Death Cure is the third and final movie in this trilogy. Although this final movie was not as big or awaited as other trilogy finalies, it was overall a good, emotional ending to the Maze Runner story.

Contrary to the previous two movies in this trilogy, The Death Cure is not mainly focused on the action aspect. Although there are many good action scenes thanks to the talented director, Wes Ball, this film is much more personal and dramatic. The characters throughout continue to wonder and hope that they are making an impact and if they will get closure with the ones they love.

The Death Cure opens with a huge, staged train jailbreak scene. It continues with an old friend coming back from the dead, a few too many zombies, and many appreciated bromance scenes. Now that they have escaped the maze from the first movie, The Maze Runner, the brave teens are ready for the final showdown.

Some of the teens are imprisoned again, and some are free and must come to terms with the the betrayal of former comrades. Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) is the brave, young leader of those teens of destiny, as he is immune to a virus that once destroyed humanity. This virus resulted in the previously mentioned teens being kept as lab rats in a maze-walled enclosure to see which of them could best be used to help humanity to survive.

When actor Dylan O’brien was asked by Screen Rant  how it felt to complete the trilogy, he responded, “We’ve been talking about this a lot because that is the whole point of all this and it’s not a total depressing thing. It’s nice because we feel so proud about what we’ve all been through together in the movies that we’ve made.  We can always look back on the experiences we’ve had together, the friendships we’ve built, it’s just amazing and we’re so lucky.”

If you were a fan of the previous Maze Runner movies, The Maze Runner and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, then I would highly recommend the final movie in this trilogy.

As crazy as this sounds, the Maze Runner: The Death Cure, had the perfect blend of action, comedy, and emotion to make them interesting and finish the trilogy on a strong note.
