Harvest Bowl XIV
November 9, 2017
Harvest Bowl is not just another football game, it’s a football game against rivals. Pitman High versus Turlock High, two schools with a long-lasting contention that most people feel quite strongly about.
Since the rivalry is embedded in people’s hearts, it’s understandable why the players and the crowd felt extremely competitive, wanting to win more than any other game this year.
For the Freshman game, which is held on Thursday rather than Friday, our newly enlisted players gave their first Harvest Bowl everything they had.
The team was 9-0 this football season, remaining undefeated until the intense game with Turlock High.
Turlock won 17-0 for this year’s Freshman Harvest Bowl, but this loss will only fuel our Freshman team to come back and dominate for their JV season.
This year’s Junior Varsity game was one to watch, with both teams working hard until the very last seconds of the game.
The stands were excited as well, encouraging their JV boys with pride. The halftime performance was also great, both cheerleading groups executing their productions beautifully.
Turlock High, being home team this year, got to recognzie all of their cheerleaders, acknowledging them for their hard work this football season.
The final score was 28-7, with Turlock high taking the win.
The varsity game is the biggest, most fierce game out of the bunch. This is where the crowd gets the most involved, and the players want it the most.
A lot of the varsity team are seniors, so this was their last year for Harvest Bowl, and for some, it’s their last game ever.
The urge to win was evident on the field, the game being a close one the whole time.
Pitman scored the first touch down, but Turlock came back and by the end, Turlock won once more, 39-27.
The crowd was very involved, chanting and cheering for the players. The Pitman side held up glow sticks and the flashlights on their phone with a green paper over it to give it some Pitman spirit.
The Turlock side let go of ballons that were the colors of their school. The crowd chanted at one another and shouted from the stands until the end.
Although Pitman didn’t win any of the their games, our school still loves the Freshmen, JV, and Varsity boys and we believe that we will win next year.
Harvest bowl is definitely about rivals, but it’s also a chance for both schools to come together. Both high schools will look forward to this event for years to come.
