What Has Key Club Been Up To?!

As the new year has begun and all Pitman activities are flourishing, Key Club is thriving with all kinds of new events and new members! After a successful club rush, Key Club achieved a number of about 200 members – what a great turnout for the first meeting! The meeting was filled with many eager students who were ready to begin their school year as a Key Club member.

Throughout the year, Key Club has many opportunities for students to lend a helping hand and complete his/her community service hours and leads students to many uprising events. As October rolls around and Halloween is just around the corner, for Key Clubbers this means numerous elementary school carnival volunteer opportunities! (Students had the chance to volunteer at Medeiros, Walnut, and Brown Elementary School carnival.)

Dedicated and loyal key clubber for four years straight, Gurleen Khella, gave us some insight on the Medeiros carnival that she had attended. She was asked what recent key club events she attended and how they went.

Gurleen Khella shared, “I recently attended the Mederios carnival where I decided to volunteer at different game booths, like football toss and rewarded kids with candy for each shot they made.” Alongside Khella, there had been an additional 60 key club volunteers at the carnival! The responsible members of Key Club volunteered very efficiently and gave back to their community.

Aside from the Mederios carnival, Key Club has many upcoming events. So far, there are events like homeless shelter feedings, See’s Candy fundraiser, helping out at nursing homes, and so on. Rather than counting their hours and completing the requirements, members of key club hope to give back to their community and work together in order to change people’s lives.

For key club, volunteering is worth all the hard work when one realizes that they are playing a significant role in someone else’s life who may not have the ability to help themselves. Our members are never undervalued as each key clubber holds the power to change a person’s life. At the elementary school carnivals, homeless shelters, and nursing homes, key clubbers bring lifetime of happiness to others when they put aside their busy life and just give a few hours to their community.

The goal for key club is for each student to realize the potential they hold to impact their home, school, and community.  Not only are our key clubbers receiving good karma, they are also receiving the satisfaction of having a major influence upon another’s life. Key Club focuses on giving their time to others and returning all the kindness they received from their community.
