Learn About Your Future at College Night
October 12, 2017
On October 5th, 2017, college night was held at Pitman High School. College night is when most colleges in California come to visit schools and provide information on their programs and majors and what they have to offer.
Here are some of the colleges that came to Pitman:
- Modesto Junior College
- Merced Junior College
- University of Pacific
- Humphrey’s University
- California State University Stanislaus
- UC’s
- And many more!
All of these colleges that visited were presented in the gym. There were booths for each college set up in the gym. Representatives of each college offered pamphlets with information about their academics, tutions, and requirements to applying to their schools. Some also offered pens and free candy to the students. These colleges were not the only colleges that were at Pitman, people from the military came as well, providing information about their academies. The Police visited as well, such as the California Highway Patrol.
Many students and parents came to college night. Not just juniors and seniors, but a few sophomores as well. “It is great to see some students want to get started early with their college
research,” said one of the college representatives. The gym was packed with so many students who were so enthusiastic to learn what these colleges have to offer.
Representatives answered many questions that students often wonder or mostly focus on when it comes to their decision making of what college to attend. They answered questions about costs and tuition, majors they have, scholarships, housing, campus life, and any special programs. There were so many different kinds of schools and colleges. Some near home like Stanislaus, Modesto, and Adrian’s Beauty College. Some were far away colleges like UC Davis and University of Pacific. And some were expensive private schools like Fresno Pacific University or Simpson University.
I asked a student of what she thinks of College Night.
Nicole: Do you find College Night to be informative?
Emily Rhodas: (laughs a bit), Yeah, I find college night to be informative. They provide a lot of information.
Students who are approaching their senior year, and are still undecided of what college they wish to attend should definitely come to college night. It is great, informational, and overall fun.
Volunteering opportunities were offered too. The tutoring zone was offering volunteer work for tutoring kids in the elementary school for students who need community service hours.
Next year, future junior or senior students, come to college night. It’ll be a fun informative night.
