Every day students athletes tend to think about the future as an athlete. If they stick with the sports they play, they question what will happen if they don’t go to a division one or two college/university. And they tend to stress out because they have no example or nothing to relate to. Well they can now. On July 19, 2016 Netflix released a series called Last Chance U.

The Netflix series Last Chance U is a group of young men that slipped up during their career as football players that now have to attend the UOM to get back on there feet.

Head coach Buddy Stephens had struggled in his past years as a coach with his anger management. Stephens has been successful with the East Mississippi team bringing home Championships and various wins.

“There’s a whole lotta story still to be written,” he said. “All new kids, new coaches on the offensive side of the ball, a new defensive coordinator. It would show a whole new view.”

This was stated by Coach Stephens telling the company to not leave because there will be new coaches giving different looks and connections. Stephens appears in the show to hate the camera but deep down he knows that it’s at the end of the day it is not for his eyes it’s for the people at home or athletes at home.

Out of the entire netflix series, there was one cast member that everyone seemed to love and players even called her their mom. This was Brittany Wagner. Wagner was the counselor to all football players and she was the heart and soul of the team.

Wagner was always on the boys regarding their grades and pushed them in a good way to get their act straight.

But I think if you watch the whole series all the way through, it’s just so powerful. The life lessons, and how real it feels at the end, I hope that stays with people.” This was stated by Brittany Wagner at the end of season 2. She mainly encourages people to watch the series because there is many things to learn throughout the series.

A fellow team mate and football player for Pitman High School, Dereck Barnes thinks the main message of the show is “education is before sports”.

Freshman head Coach, Coach Reza explained, “Counselors are important and in college and you need all the help you can get.” This quote means collage can be hard sometimes and more help will only make it easier.

Sergio Romo freshman at Pitman High school said,“make the right choices that will benefit you in your ways”

Emilio Gutierrez, freshman at Pitman said “you can still have an education even if you slip up”.

Barnes also said “ get your act straight and you need the grades not only to get through sports but to get through life”. Derek Barnes added, “I would definitely recommend this to anyone that is struggling with sports”

Last Chance U is a show that you can connect with and  it shows various life lessons that anyone can benefit off of.
