Another Promising Pitman Track Season
March 28, 2017
Pitman’s Track and Field team has achieved many accomplishments in the past and have many expectations this year. The race to CCC has already begun and Pitman is off to a good start.
The last couple of years, Pitman has been very successful. Varsity girls have taken CCC for many years in a row and work to continue this streak. Fourteen athletes also moved on to Masters last year.
We’ve asked Pitman athletes to share their thoughts on how they think this season is going to play out.
Junior multi-event athlete, Bianca Garcia, says, “As of right now we have not had one meet where the whole team has competed, but, we have had a few and from the looks of it we are going to have to give it our all to keep the ccc champions title.”
Pitman will be practicing and bettering themselves and you can expect them to bring their all to the table.
With one more year left, Garcia says, “I have learned that perfect practice makes perfect. You can’t just go out there and compete and automatically expect to do amazing without training to be amazing. I have also learned that there will always be someone better so do not be discouraged if you are beat one race.”
Daniel Dwight, sprinter and jumper, is a senior this year and has done track since he was a freshman. What he has learned through his years in track is that hard work and dedication earns you a competitive spot on the team.
He says, “I started off my freshman year as an average athlete; I wasn’t always winning or breaking records. But as I got older, I worked and trained harder, earning my spot as a top competitor on the track team.”
Dwight’s pre-meet routine consists of an ice bath the night before the meet, rolling out, and stretching. Garcia adds that she prepares her body by not only eating right but having a good mindset.
It looks like Pitman will have a very competitive season as always.
Dwight says, “This past Friday the boys team won the county championship and the girls were runner ups by only a few points. We had a few key competitors out, so I think if we can all contribute as we are expected to, we will have a very good season full of record breaking and championships.”
“There is a sophomore named Ty Thomson who I think is going to surprise a lot of people this year. He’s already had some pretty big jumps and it’s only the beginning of the season”, Dwight reports.
There is no doubt that Pitman’s Track and Field will fight to the finish. We look forward to this season and wish all of our athletes luck but to not “break a leg”.
