Will Coachella Light Up your Night?

Will Coachella Light Up your Night?

Coachella is less than four months away and the hype has already been started. With Coachella’s 2017 lineup just being released, the music festival is all you’re going to hear about until the event happens. The weekend of April 14-16th and 21-23rd in Indio, California, will be filled with celebrities and a whole lot of people dressed bohemian like.

Over a hundred artists are scheduled to perform and the headliners are Radiohead, Beyoncé, and Kendrick Lamar. Some other known artists include: Martin Garrix, Future, Lorde, Lil Uzi Vert, ScHoolboy Q, and Mac Miller. This year there are more artists who you’d hear on the radio instead of Coachella’s usual Indie and Pop. They wanted to be approachable by all people and not just stereotypical “hippies” to be more successful.

In the first few years of Coachella’s debut, it struggled to make a profit and in the first year, even made a loss of a million dollars. In 2004, it finally paid off as it was sold out for the very first time. Since then, the music festival has grown so much that in 2012 they decided to make it a two weekend event. This year, tickets sold out just shy of an hour after they went on sale.

Although Coachella’s music is a big attraction, it is a festival full of art and culture. There are tons of paintings and sculptures incorporated into the festivals captivating ambience. Walking the festival grounds, you may see celebrities like Kendall Jenner and most known for their fashion at Coachella, Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler.

Coachella differs from other music festivals like Tomorrowland and EDC because of the different vibes. Instead of the rave atmosphere and techno songs, you can expect chill music and chill energy while you walk around passing by thousands of others dressed exactly like you are, a “flower child”. You’ll be able to take your mind off of even the most stressful things since all you’ll be thinking about is when your favorite artist will be performing and how much water you’re lacking.

One thing that goes unnoticed at festivals like these are the amount of work and money that go in to incorporate lights and lasers to bring the songs to life. “We want to give people the full experience of what every song has the power to be,” Heather Shaw, founder of lighting and effects design firm Vita Motus, says. Not only are there crazy amounts of LED screens, lasers, and lights, there are also hundreds of people wearing lights as clothing. This amplifies the energy once the hot sun sets into a nice and cool dusk.

It really is an experience like no other. Even if there are no performers you’re too fond of, the overall experience will entrance you.
