Where Our Environment is in 2017
January 26, 2017
For more than a century there has been a major impact to our planet. We are in the state of planetary emergency, with environmental problems piling up high around us.
As our environment changes, one must become more aware of the issues such as human overpopulation, climate change, depletion of natural resources, and even natural disasters. Unless we address the various issues prudently and seriously we are doomed for disaster.
With the earth’s population in the reach of unsustainable levels, it faces a great shortage of resources like water, fuel, and food.
Our agriculture is intensive and practiced to produce food damages in the environment through use of chemical fertilizer, pesticides, and insecticides. With overpopulation being one of the current crucial problems in the environment.
Climate changes like global warming are the result of human practices like emission of greenhouse gases. Global warming leads to rising temperatures of the oceans and the earth’ surface causing the melting of polar ice caps, causing the rise of sea levels and unnatural patterns of precipitation like flash floods, excessive snow, or desertification.
Having natural resource depletion is another very crucial environmental problem. Fossil fuels consumption results in the emission of greenhouse gases, which is responsible for global warming and climate change. Because of this, people are taking steps to shift to renewable energy like solar, wind, biogas, and geothermal sources.
Unfortunately, the cost of installing the infrastructure and maintaining these sources has doubled in recent years. With eco-friendly charities like the Wildlife Conservation Network, World Land Trust – US, Ecotrust and more, we have some but not all of the help we may need just yet to save our planet.
We, ourselves can not always depend on others but can always depend and rely on ourselves. That goes for a lot of things, like in our case the environment. Our environment is in need of help right now but will soon be in great danger if we do not react now.
We have seen the signs, we’ve known the pleads and have heard the cries for help from such victims who have lived through it all such as earthquakes, typhoons, and tsunamis.
For example, with the earthquakes that have happened in Haiti, Pakistan, Tohoku, and the Indian Ocean have caused such destruction along with heat waves, droughts, hurricanes, and floods.
These very disasters have caused such damage to the environment all around. With that damage comes a cost. A cost that comes along with time and money.
They say that one person can change the world, but in this case, at this point, we all need to start changing how we view the environment and what our duty to Earth is.
