The Legendary Superbowl XLIX Halftime Show
March 2, 2016
After forty-nine previous Super Bowl games, along with many outstanding performances, Coldplay, Beyoncé, and Bruno Mars were all booked to take the stage at the halftime show for the Super Bowl in Levi’s Stadium on February 7th.
The performance was a mashup of the three artists, beginning with Coldplay’s setlist that consisted of some of their hit songs that got the crowd filled with energy and excitement; “Viva La Vie” and “Paradise” and leading into their slower song, “Adventure of a Lifetime”
On stage Coldplay had musicians from Youth Orchestra L.A. that lit up the stage with bright colored outfits and matching painted instruments. Along with the musicians were dancers twirling their pastel umbrellas.
Of course just the colorful stage wasn’t enough for a Super Bowl halftime show, Coldplay got the whole audience involved, by having everyone in the stands holding up a colored piece of paper filling the stadium with bursts of rainbow colors, all which spelled out “believe in love.”
Joining Coldplay, the second time halftime performer, Bruno Mars, directly followed. Bruno brought the hype back up with his upbeat song, “Uptown Funk” along with his backup dancers that helped him put on a ‘funky’ show.
And of course, following them was the queen B. Beyoncé returned to the stage after her previous Super Bowl halftime performance from three years ago. Beyoncé performed her new song which she released the previous day before titled, “Formation”
Beyoncé completely smashed her performance, singing and pulling off some killer dance moves. Despite that she almost fell, she still managed to save herself and continue the routine with no hesitation.
Beyoncé used the large stage to show off some of her new content, and even announced her new world tour.
However, her new world tour wasn’t the only thing getting buzz about. Much controversy was sparked after Beyoncé’s performance due to the fact that her dance represented “black power.” The dancers strutted in outfits that symbolize the controversial activists, black panthers. Along with that, she and her dancers all raised their fists in the air to pay tribute to Mario Woods who was shot by cops in San Francisco last year.
After Beyoncé’s bold song, they all joined together to perform the song “Fix You” which was dedicated to remembering all of the previous halftime shows.
Even though last year’s halftime performance had amazing special effects, one of which was Katy Perry riding in on her giant mechanical lion that seemed as if it couldn’t be topped, the artists all still pulled off one heck of a performance.
