Pitman Track & Field

With Spring-time Track and Field season well under way, Pitman’s absolutely stellar athletes are preparing, and praying, for more victories to add to their vast collection.

Track and Field is a very unique sport, as it seems there is something for everyone to enjoy. If someone likes to run for a short amount of time, they would enjoy sprinting. If they like a slower but steadier pace, than distance running could be their forte. Or, if running at all doesn’t particularly interest someone, they might try one of many field events such as pole vault, high jump, long jump, shot put, triple jump or discus.

Spring of 2016 will be an exciting year for track and field, whether it’s for a senior athlete who is trying to finish their high school career with a bang, or a freshman who is already on their way to achieving greatness. Pitman track and field will be hoping for some big wins at all of their meets, but especially the CCC (Central California Conference) meets, to keep their list that seems to go forever and a day going. JV boys have won every year of CCC meets since 2010, Varsity girls have won every year since 2009, and JV girls, remarkably, have won since 2006.

Pitman shouldn’t have too much trouble maintaining their records, unless the other teams in their divisions, which are Turlock High school, (their biggest competition), Buhach Colony, Atwater, Merced, or Golden Valley, get significantly better.

Kristian Robles, a freshman here at Pitman, is no newbie to track, as it is his second year and he is hoping to get some new personal records in his favorite events, the mile and the 800 meters.

Kristian Shares, “I’m very excited for this season. Running distance and competing for it is something that i just love to do. This season I’m hoping to get a 4:50 mile and to be one of our team’s top boys distance runners.

Pitman is very lucky to have some very talented coaches to lead the team to victory. We have Coach Moren, to coach throwers, Coach Shaw to coach pole vault and sprints, Coach Fisher to coach jumping and sprints, and Coach Mayfield, who is a key contributor to the distance runners.

Coach Fisher declares, “Coaching track and field is a very amusing process. I’ve always enjoyed doing it and it’s really amazing to help the kids get better and improve in what they love to do”

As for this season Fisher exclaims, “I’m very excited for this season. We’re at the point where I’ve had the chance to scope out all of the athletes we have and I have high hopes for their abilities this season”

Pitman also has some soon-to-be graduating seniors that everyone will soon have to say their goodbyes to. For example, Kiana Clay, a sprinter, and Keith Reid, a distance runner, have done track for all four years of their high school career. It will be a tough loss when they leave, but hopefully everyone will get a chance to see them run before they do.

Reid shares, “The part I’ll miss most about track is not the competition, but the people involved and the environment it creates”

Pitman Track and Field is positively bound to have a thrilling season, and records will, without a doubt, be shattered. With the help of Pitman’s awesome coaches, their athletes will thrive as one of the top Track teams in Stanislaus County, and everyone should go out of their way to support them.
