NBA Trade Deadlines
March 1, 2016
Last week, as the playoffs are not too far away, many teams were searching for players as the NBA trade deadline was upcoming.
Despite many teams searching for big players, nothing major had occurred.
In total there were 26 players moved to 18 different teams.
One of the bigger trades that had occurred was that Channing Frye, the forward from the Magic, signed a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers also received a future second round pick from the Blazers.
The Magic had received a second round pick from Cleveland and Jared Cunningham from Cleveland.
The Blazers got Anderson Varejao from Cleveland and also a future first round pick from Cleveland.
Randy Foye was traded from the Nuggets to the Thunder. The Nuggets got D.J. Augustin, Steve Novak and two second round picks from the Thunder. This will add guard depth to the Thunder roster as they already have All Star Point Guard Russell Westbrook.
Another trade that had occurred was that Jeff Green was sent to the Clippers in exchange for Lance Stephenson and a future first round draft pick. Jeff Green will look to add even more athleticism to the already athletic Clippers.
Courtney Lee from the Memphis Grizzlies was traded to the Hornets. The Grizzlies in return received P.J Hairston from Charlotte and Chris Anderson from the Heat. The Heat, received, Brian Roberts from Charlotte. The Hornets, who are in eighth place in the East, look to make a playoff push with Courtney Lee who will look to spread the floor for them.
The Chicago Bulls sent Kirk Hinrich to the Atlanta Hawks for Justin Holiday and a future second round pick from the Jazz.
The Wizards received Markieff Morris from the Suns in exchange for Kris Humphries, Dejuan Blair and a first round pick. This should help the Wizards as Markieff Morris can add a physical presence to any team.
One of the bigger trades was that the Magic received Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova for giving the Pistons Tobias Harris. The Pistons definitely received a young player with high potential and Brandon Jennings and Ilyasova should provide a spark to the Magic offense.
These were just the main trades as the deadline was approaching.
As we get closer and closer to the NBA playoffs many teams that had completed a trade now look to push towards the playoffs with 17-18 games left in the regular season.
Currently, The Cleveland Cavaliers, with a record of 40-15, rule the East and the Golden State Warriors with a record of 50-5 currently rule the West.
In the West the Rockets (in eighth place), Jazz, and Kings look to push for the final playoff spot and there is still plenty of time to do so.
In the East, the three teams pushing for the final playoff spot are the Bulls, Hornets, and Wizards.
Who will lead their team to the playoffs? WIll it be John Wall of the Wizards, Demarcus Cousins of the Kings, or someone else? Well we are about to find out as the end of the season is approaching.
