“Brazil currently stand[s] as the most successful country in football [soccer] history.” states Brazilian Football.
When Charles Miller first introduced soccer to Sao Paulo Athletic Club in 1892, he would have had no idea of just how much the sport has grown into the Brazilian culture.
The sport struggled at first, until they finally played their first game in 1914 against Exeter City. However, some fans say 1930 was when the history of Brazilian soccer began when the team made their first appearance in the world cup.
Brazil’s talent increased rapidly, especially when Pele became a part of the team. Pele led them to two World Cup wins in a row from 1958, 1962, and to 1970.
Appearances at finals:
- 1930: First round
- 1934: First round
- 1938: Third place
