Basically everyone in the world has heard of the boyband One Direction, and the proof is their international stadium tour that will span eight months, six continents, nineteen countries, and fifty-four cities. The hugely popular quintet is starting their, appropriately named, On The Road Again Tour in Australia in February. Niall, Louis, Zayn, Harry, and Liam will be preforming songs from their newly released fourth album FOUR, along with songs from previous albums.
The set list includes songs from One Direction’s albums consisting mostly of older songs. Only six songs out of twenty-one are from their new album. This has angered many fans because they were expecting new songs to be performed, due to the fact that they have heard the older ones at previous shows. Many are hoping the set list will be changed after the Australian leg of the tour. Some of the songs that are being sung are Best Song Ever, Little Black Dress, What Makes You Beautiful, Night Changes, Strong, Happily, Little Things, and One Thing.
The opening acts for each leg of the tour will be different. In the previous tours 5 Seconds of Summer have predominately been the openers of the boybands shows. However this year the performers of the Australian leg will be the band McBusted and X-factor winner, Samantha Jade. The opening acts for the other shows are still unknown to the public.
This will be One Direction’s second stadium tour, the first of which occurred last year. Previous to this they were playing arenas that held around 10,000 or so people. During this stadium tour each venue will be extremely large, holding thousands of screaming fans. One of the largest stadiums, The Rose Bowl holds over 90,000 people.
One aspect that is missing for this year’s tour are Twitter questions. In previous years the band would have fans send in questions with hashtags coinciding with their concerts. A select few would be answered in the middle of the show and the lucky fan would be found in the crowd. This led to many hilarious moments of dancing, knock-knock jokes, and overall craziness; and these questions will surely be missed.
One thing that remains the same are the shenanigans of the boys. Harry has already done his “Whale” routine, where he suddenly shoots out large amounts of water when the bass drops. They have also been preforming their own silly little choreographed dance moves that elicit screaming and laughter from the crowd. Lyric changes have been taking place during the shows making them more amusing, which has not been done in a while and is an absolute favorite of the fans. They boys have also been taking “wee wee” breaks. As they like to call them, during performances which is not uncommon. However, the tour has not yet reached the point where the boys having begun eating bananas and other random objects on stage.
The One Direction lads will also be visiting many different countries this year. The United States will have shows all across the country, in California, New York, Wisconsin, Ohio, among other places. Australia will also have many shows across the country as well, along with Canada. Europe will get the most shows; the United Kingdom, Finland, Ireland, Belgium, Austria. Even Japan, Dubai, South Africa, Thailand, and the Philippines will be getting performances from the boys.
Fans are, obviously, extremely excited for the concerts that they will get to witness. The lads of One Direction are equally as excited. Harry tweeted, “As far as I’m aware the doors are open. And we’re On The Road Again!” Liam was also equally excited but slightly nervous during the first concert of the tour, “Today was like 1st day at school and [you] sit at your test paper and everything goes except there’s lots of people and I had no pen.”
So those lucky enough to get to see the five boys on the stairs who have transformed into global superstars, should enjoy very moment. On The Road Again will be sure to surpass fans’ wildest dreams and it will definitely elicit laughs, cries, and ear-splitting screams.
