On September 19th the first episode of the Law and Order Special Victims Unit sixteenth season premiered. In the 15 years the show has been on there have been many changes, for the good and the bad, but this episode was definitely worth the wait. It was action packed and full of twists and turns in the plot. It definitely lived up to expectations.
Many of the actors and actresses in this episode really did a fantastic job. Ice-T playing Fin really seemed to be the star of the episode despite him really not being the star of the show. He stepped up in this episode and did a great job, which was definitely noteworthy. Mariska Hargitay was definitely a close second but she always plays the stubborn Olivia Benson well. Her character has faced many different obstacles within the past season and she has done a fantastic job portraying all these new emotions that she needs to feel. This new actor that plays Benson’s new partner named Carisi is Peter Scanovino. He has huge shoes to fill in the show so I’m not too sure how I feel about him yet. He did do a decent job in the first episode and I believe he will work his way up to being an important character.
The show itself, such as the plot, was the best it could have possibly been for a premier. The three writers named Kevin Fox, Warren Leight, and Julie Martin did an absolutely amazing job on the story line. You never know what you are going to get with Law and Order: SVU but that one just blew me away, which is pretty difficult to do. Something was always happening and there were constant new twists and turns in the story line.
All in all this was a great season premier that was totally and completely worth the wait. The future is bright for this show which is a wonderful thing considering it has been around so long. I can’t wait for the next episode.
