“…my heart started racing a little bit, and I was worried about what may or may not happen.” Bhatia Tasmeen, passenger on Delta Flight 886 retells of her experience. Flight 886 was bound for Atlanta when its hydraulics system reported failure. Flight 886 had on board 118 passengers. The plane had to make an emergency landing in Terminal 4 JFK International Airport. The plane departed on the airport’s grass. It departed from New York’s La Guardia Airport and made its abrupt descent on 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 1st.
There were no casualties as a result from the emergency landing, but there were a fair amount of passengers who were concerned about the flight’s safety. After landing, the passengers were escorted to Terminal 2 and were provided with the necessary means to get to their originating airport, La Guardia.
JFK was the chosen destination for the emergency landing due to the airport having runways of greater length. There has been no concrete evidence pointing to the exact cause of failure within the hydraulics system and thus the emergency landing itself, but the FAA (Federal Airport Administration) is currently investigating. The recent event has raised questions about the safety of Delta Flights and the flight provider are doing everything they can to provide its consumers reassurance.
