The start of the MLB season brings great images of Ghirardelli sundaes, peanuts, and crab sandwiches to a baseball fan’s mind. Not only is Opening Day a cherished event across the country, it also brings fans together to cheer on their favorite team at their local bar.
MLB fans around the world have come together to vote for the White House petition to make opening day a national holiday.
Ozzie Smith is the campaign’s leader. He recently quoted, “The more than the 100,000 people who signed the petition are just a fraction of the 1.3 million that will attend Opening Day this year. This day is already an unofficial holiday, but it’s time to make it official.” Within 20 days of the petition being online, it already totaled over 100,000 signatures.
Now that the nation has come together to reach the amount of votes needed, now it is up to the White House to finalize this petition and make it a national holiday.
Local opening day at At&t park is sure to be packed with fans, not just from San Francisco, but from all over the country that have come together to support their favorite team.
