Suessified sounds pretty unusual. Put it together with William Shakespeare, and it’s even stranger. On Friday January 24th, the majority of Pitman High students visited the Black Box Theater to watch the school’s drama production of The Suessification of Romeo and Juliet. The production entertained students and was enjoyable to watch.
This year the cast changed things up a little bit, added some twists and turns to the play to make it more humorous so the audience would enjoy it better. When someone hears “Romeo and Juliet,” they think of the tragedy of the star-crossed lovers. This play is not the original script; it’s changed in several ways with humor and has a Dr. Seuss theme added into the play to make it more entertaining.
The play included Romeo and Juliet in their traditional roles. However, because this was Suessified, no one died and everyone lived happily ever after. Instead of sword fights, there were dance offs and blow horns. Rather than take a dram of poison, Romeo ate what he thought was a poisonous cracker. Luckily, he was mistaken and the cracker had been switched for a nonpoisonous saltine.
With the two main actors Ana Bettencourt and Zeke Zuniga playing as Romeo and Juliet, the play it could not have turned out any better. The entire cast put in a lot of hard work into the play and had prepared for days in order to out on this show. Thanks to the wonderful cast, the play was a huge success and turned out just like they had hoped.
PHS drama directors, WhitneyBay and Maddie Snider, have been working for days in order to put on an impressive show for the audience. The directors and most of the cast have given up there lunch time and school hours, including after school and before school, to rehearse and practice for the show.
After a long week of preparing and rehearsing, hopefully, we can expect more plays to be hilarious and full of excitement by the end of the school year and in the future at PHS.
