Turlock, California, a relatively quiet town, is located near the bay and mountains, and is home to 69,000 residents. Turlock’s normalcy makes it one of a kind because the town does not attract too many people, and keeps the community closer to one another. This makes Turlock an ideal place to raise a family.
A resident of Turlock commented, “… Turlock is the ideal place. The summers are breeze and warm while the springs and falls are beautiful and cool…”
Although Turlock already has shopping centers, it will soon expand with the possible addition of an outlet. The idea of bringing outlets to Turlock has been a possibility since early October. The Turlock task force, a committee that helps to improve Turlock economically, is not sure about putting outlets in Turlock. The hesitation revolves around whether or not it is worth losing the calm, amiable town qualities as the outlets attract more businesses and people.
The possible Turlock outlet could contain mainstream stores just like other outlets. Some of these possible stores are, Forever 21, Nike, Pac sun, or Banana Republic. If this possibility becomes a reality it could affect Turlock’s tranquil atmosphere greatly. With a new shopping center many consumers, most coming from either Fresno or Stockton, will come as well. This will bring more residents to Turlock and possibly more businesses.
Richard Mowery, a local lawyer and member of Turlock’s task force declared, “The idea of an outlet mall is intriguing, I think it is a good idea, and is worth exploring.”
The possibility of outlets coming to Turlock is very slim. As mentioned before Turlock’s task force is concerned about losing the quiet charm of the town, but they do want to improve Turlock’s economy and the outlets would be the solution. Also, town or cities can’t just put outlets in their area like any other business. People who control the outlets place them were they would be more useful and reachable to shoppers.
Task Force Vice-Chair and Planning Commission Chairman Mike Brem elaborated “They come to you; you didn’t necessarily go to them.”
The City of Turlock adding outlets to their city could be great or not so great. Both decisions have their pros and cons, but either way the idea is still up in the air and needs to be thought out thoroughly with the task force and community until the final decision is reached.
