The Winter X Games go back in history. Since they started in 1997, they have evolved greatly; including new tricks, better athletes and definitely more fans. Since 2002, the Winter X Games have been held on the famous Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado. “The 2014 Winter games have been confirmed to be held in AspenColorado,” states a reliable source, ESPN.
The great athletes that participate in the winter games are very talented, but the smallest things including, snow conditions and weather can affect their performances. Snow conditions are a huge factor in the winter games. For example, if the snow is thick it can affect the times of the downhill skiers. Also, the thick snow can affect the height that athletes get on their jumps, which is very critical to their performances. The weather also plays a huge role in the outcome of the Winter X Games. Strong winds can obstruct an athlete’s trick, which can result in serious injuries. In the past, athletes have broken bones and also ended their careers due to the snow injuries.
However, with all these factors, most winter athletes performed to their best last year. Shaun White, an X Games veteran in snowboarding, went into the 2013 Winter X Games as the underdog. He had won over 14 X Games gold medals in the past, but people were thinking that his age was catching up to him. White was 26 years old, but still earned gold medals in his events. Last year White suffered a concussion while snowboarding in the X Games. White has fully recovered and is expected to come back even stronger this upcoming X Games.
This year, the 2014 X Games Aspen will be held on January 24-27th at Buttermilk Mountain. Tickets are on sale now. This is a four-day event that is sure to be action packed and full of fun. Also, there will be music performances by Calvin Harris and Major Lazer. Adding on to this event will be the highly demanded snow cross races in Aspen. This event will be aired on ESPN.
