Finals, the word itself has such a negative connotation for high school students. Many students start to panic when they hear that finals are around the corner because they have no clue what to study and how to study. With the following tips you should be able to receive the grade you deserve, the grade that you are satisfied with on the final.
Cramming and procrastination are two things that high school students should get an award in. It can be so tempting to learn all this information in one day. But it is not possible.
Splitting studying into sessions can be easier and the information will sink in faster. If you spend 20 to 30 minutes studying a set of information and take a ten minute break, the information will make more sense, than a student reading a whole bunch of stuff and putting the book away.
According to the Dartmouth Academic center, “You should study in 20 -50 minute increments and give yourself a 5 to 10 minute break between the sessions.”
When studying for exams students tend to stay put in one position. It is better to switch positions from the room to the living room, and maybe even somewhere like the park. The change of environment is said to motivate the student to keep studying.
The New York Times stated, “You should switch things up when reviewing for exams.”
Reading and memorizing the information can become a drag. Some students tend to memorize information better by putting into a song, poem, or even some other type of funky way. This may seem odd but students report that it helps them tremendously during the finals. When they forget something while taking the final they sing or recite there little memorization trick in their head and all the information tends to come back to them.
Remina Wahid, a former graduate of PitmanHigh School stated, “I would get so overwhelmed when it was time for finals in anatomy because there was so much information to remember, but making up a song was always easy for me since I love music. I would include all the information into a song and everything seemed so easy.”
