The break-in at the office of EDD located in downtown Turlock on Monday morning between 2 and 5 A.M. left many employees especially, the owner of the building, in shock.
Bill Youngdale, owner of the building, stated, “It was like getting kicked a second time, after the states announcement in September that it would close the office on October 1.”
The office of EDD handles all of the unemployment benefits, administers disability insurance, and offers welfare to work programs.
The building was left in absolute choas. Computers were stolen and many personal belongings of the employees were taken as well. The thieves trashed the bathroom, aisles, and kitchen. The thieves left feces which was an unpleasant surprise to all the workers that walked in to the office on Tuesday morning.
The police department will be analyzing fingerprints left at the crime scene.
Surinder Wahid, an employee stated, “I was devastated when I got to work and all my belongings were thrown around, and they took a lot of my co-workers belongings as well. I was angered by the people that had the guts to do this.”
It was shocking to many residents of Turlock that even with the office of EDD being directly across the Police Station, no action was taken.
A resident of Turlock stated, “It is shocking to think that even with the police office being across the street from this office they were not able to see what was happening. This makes me wonder about how well our police station is really working. I don’t mean to bash our police office but it is pretty sad to think that they were not able to see anything with it happening right across the street.”
