Every week Pitman High School’s choir director, Mrs. Harrell, selects a musician of the week. This week Mrs. Harrell selected junior Natalie Tout for her exceptional work, skills, and dedication.
1.) What is your favorite genre of music?
“My favorite genre of music is Indie, which is a mixture of alternative, country, and rock. I like Indie because the bands that play this kind of music are not well known or popular, but have the potential to be.”
2.) What instrument do you play?
“I sing second soprano, and I’m also learning the piano because I want to further my music career and I think that will be an asset to me.”
3.) When did you start playing?
“I’ve always been involved in productions and little plays at school from the time I was very young. Then I started taking private singing lessons when I was eight years old and I’ve been taking them ever since then. I’ve preformed with different bands because I want to establish myself before I go to college to pursue my career in performing arts.”
4.) How often do you practice?
“I do choir everyday here at Pitman and I work with Yes Company, a performing arts group, and I rehearse with them Monday through Friday. In the summer we do a large production at the Gallo center, and we do smaller ones as well. I also help out with the younger kids there, I mentor them.”
5.) What inspires you as a musician?
“My family inspires me because when I was younger and I started to perform my family thought that I had something and if we worked on it could be better. They pushed me to get involved and it was something that I really enjoyed, so even as I got older it was something I wanted to continue doing.”
