A revered tradition and including many of the acclaimed events of Pitman High, homecoming week is an integral part of the livelihood of the school. Through the 16th and 20th of September the days of the week were transformed to meet the excitement for the big game. To build school spirit, each day of the week was a theme dress-up day. They included days that featured Tie-Dye, Superhero. 80’s, Disney, and Blockbuster Spirit.
Unlike most Mondays, the 16th was a day full of color and excitement. Lunchtime was especially eventful as the homecoming nominees participated in a competitive activity, Tie-dye partner face painting.
The 17th was even more eventful featuring all sorts of superheroes. From the widely known, to the obscure, almost every student on campus showed their school enthusiasm. All classes competed in Pitman High’s own version of The Amazing Race. The results ended with faculty members winning first place, seniors second, juniors third, freshman fourth, and sophomores in last place.
Bright neon colors, leggings, and letterman jackets were abundant during 80’s day. Epitomizing the fashion sense of the 1980’s, Pitman campus seemed as if it were a cutout of The Breakfast Club. A team of football players represented, as they won the lunchtime activity of dodge ball, crushing several other teams,
Pitman High emulated the happiest place on earth, personifying the spirit of Walt Disney on Disney Day. Mickeys and Minnies could be seen all around. During lunch the tunes of Disney movies could be heard. The contest for Thursday was guessing the name for the tunes being played as well as having the best costume.
Finishing with a bang, Pitman High ended with Blockbuster Spirit Day. The day consisted of nervous homecoming nominees, a rally, and eventually the announcement of Homecoming Prince, Princess, King, and Queen. They were all seniors and are as follows: Jose Chavez (Prince), Vanessa Jimenez (Princess), Zeke Zuniga (King), and Bianca Ortega (Queen). Pumped and ready Pitman High faced off Oakland Tech High that night and won, finishing homecoming on a high note.
