The government shutdown was one of the most pressing and featured stories a few weeks ago. It still remains a raging topic, but the government has graciously reopened. This action of revival has caused many workers to no longer be furloughed, as well as many other government-run institutions to once again perform. The conflicting views on the issue of whether or not the debt limit was to be raised, is what caused the shutdown. Recently however, the conflict has been resolved with the nation raising its debt limit of $16.7 trillion.
Ashamed at the series of events that led up to the government shutdown and the shutdown itself, President Barack Obama stated, “That’s not a surprise that the American people are completely fed up with Washington.” Obama’s disappointment is clearly evident. One would suspect that the act of recovering from recent economic turmoil would cause leaders to be more decisive. Critical moments such as the government shutdown and the recent Recession are when the whole world decides to watch. Albeit the United States is in a constant state of discord, this event proved to be especially counterintuitive to the cause of unity and hope.
The main reason as to how the conflict was resolved would be that the Republican Party finally decided to cooperate and vote with the Democratic way of thinking. Besides the blatant economic repercussions there are various other consequences of the actions. The nation’s credibility with other countries as a superpower is no longer as viable .
The government shutdown ended on a happy note seeing, as it is open once again. The re-opening of jobs for individuals is benefitting everyone who got laid off. National Museums, parks, and other government related things return from their unplanned hiatus. In the future, another government shutdown would definitely not be beneficial to the nation’s survival. The next shutdown could mean breakdown.
