Alcohol is predominant in high school, it is available many places over the weekend and sometimes during the week. High school students view it as acceptable because “everyone else” is drinking it, but many of them are athletes that do not know the many affects it can have on them and their athletisism. When athletes consume alcohol after a workout, practice, or competition such as a game, it has the ability to cancel out phisiological gains that could have occured been created. This is caused by the diminished ability of the body to create protien synthesis, which inhibits the amound of mucles build-up the body can produce. This happens over a long period of time, but muscle growth is impeded even if used for a short amount of time.our body works off sleep, this is when it creates protiens to help grow after workouts. Alcohol prevents the body to get a full nights rest, and the Human Growth Hormone production is reduced by seventy percent. Because the body sees comprehends it as a toxin it reduces testosterone levels whoch helps your muscles recover. The toxin travels through the bloodstream that dehydrates teh body and reduces the bodys ability to heal as well. Lastly, Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) is depleated because the water levels in muscles is reduced. Coenzymme, which produces ATP, is not produced as much because the alcohol is oxidized by dehydrogenase which creates NADH. This creates loss of endurance and energy.
When alcohol is present in the body, the brains ability to learn and store information is inhibited because the hippocampus is compromised. Yes, the information previously stated says when alcohol is present in teh body, but since alcohol affects your sleep solid memories are not formed. Even if an alcoholic beverage is drank six hours before going to sleep, it can still affect the sequence and duration of your sleep.
Alcohol compresses how well our aerobic metabolism and endurance work. Many drinks are high in calories, but do not help your muscles. They are not considered glycogen carbohydrates that are used as energy during a workout. Instead the calories are stored as fat and converted in fatty acids, meaning one has to conditon more to even maintain the athletes weight. One last important factor that alcohol prohibited is teh absorption and usage of important vitamins. Thiamin, or vitamin B1, helps the body metabolize protiens and fats to form hemoglobin. It also helps an athlete to preform at its optimal performance in breaking down carbohydrates. Vitamin B12 helps the dody create healthy red blood cells and nerve cells. Folic acid, is decreased, can produce anemina which reduces the amount of oxygen capacity. The last nutrient that is needed, but is limited is Zinc. This nutrient is needed for the best metabolic process for the body. If this is absent from the body, in any amount, one’s endurance is depleted in vast amounts.
