Volunteering is an important part of society. Many young people may want to help and get involved, but don’t know how. They don’t know what they want to help with, or where to begin. Well, there are a variety of different places you can volunteer. You just have to find a form of volunteering you enjoy or something you are interested in. We all know that high school students need service hours to graduate now, so here are ten different places you could volunteer in our local community.
- Turlock Salvation Army
They are dedicated in fulfilling the needs of our community in all forms- physical, spiritual, and emotional. They meet the needs of the Westside of Turlock with help from the staff and volunteers. You can work in the thrift store and tutor young children. Volunteers can also get involved with the other youth programs. - Emanuel Medical Center
Volunteers can work in the gift shop, greet patients and their families, organize charts, and do other important functions in the hospital. The volunteers also help out at Brandel Manor, Cypress of Emanuel,EmanuelPhysicianCenter, and Emanuel Regional Cancer Services. Volunteers have to attend an orientation before they can start. - Turlock Gospel Mission
Their mission is to help individuals in need by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to meet human needs. They serve all hungry and homeless people who come to their door and offer food, shelter, compassion, education, residential and employment services along with many other support programs. Turlock Gospel Mission assists in the renewal of their full life. As a volunteer, you can serve the hungry, interact with the needy, and help tutor and educate the children there. - United Samaritans Foundation
This foundation depends on volunteers’ generosity and help. Individuals and groups volunteer on a regular basis. Volunteers help assist in the office, yard, warehouse, clothes closet, and food pantry. They also deliver meals and pick up donated goods. - Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity’s goal is to eliminate poverty and homelessness by creating a decent shelter. People from all backgrounds come together to build houses for families in need. - Meals on Wheels
Volunteers help prepare and deliver meals to seniors who are unable to leave their home in their local community. As they deliver meals, they also share companionship and a friendly smile. - Tutor Younger Students
Volunteers can tutor younger students at elementary schools. You can help these students in whatever area they need help with. All you need to do is contact the elementary school and see if they need your help. - Paramount Court or Covenant Village Retirement Homes
People can visit with senior citizens to provide entertainment and companionship to the elders. Sometimes volunteers can even do activities with the residents such as reading books to the blind helping organize for the holidays. Remember to call for times and specific opportunities. - Churches/Mosques/Synagogues/etc.
You can volunteer at your church or wherever you go for your religion and can volunteer with whatever they need help with, like teaching younger children about your religion, helping in the kitchen, or many other tasks. - Veterinary Hospitals/Offices/Animal Shelters
Volunteers can help at veterinary hospitals and animal shelters to sort paperwork, clean cages, interact with animals, and help with any needed tasks.
