From shootings at theaters to killings at schools, these violent killings all have to do with guns. Finally people are starting to realize what a big problem it is to let just anyone buy these dangerous weapons.New Yorkhas started to plan putting in a serious gun-control law that would be one of the strictest laws for this that would take into effect.
Even Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has said that an ironclad ban on assault weapons and large-capacity magazines would be taken place; this is a new measure to keep criminals and mentally ill people away from guns.
Matt Reese, a junior atPitmanHigh Schoolsaid, “Automatic weapons belong only in the hands of trained professionals; there is no need for them in the lives of citizens”. That is very true, just any person these days seem to be able to get their hands on weapons – and that is putting all of our lives at risk everyday.
“There should be background checks including criminal records”, like Nathan Rohani points out, people should be checked before being able to buy guns, one never knows what the true purpose the weapon is for.New Yorkwas the first to new restrictions, and they are being set this year and eventually it will spread through other several other state capitals.
Not everyone should be allowed the purchasing of guns or weapons because many people were hurt as last year has proven with the shooting at the theaters and schools. “Guns should be limited to only police officials and those with a license” Becky Moua says.
A specific license for the purpose of the weapon could prevent many of these horrible instances. People are getting hurt, and action must be taken to prevent more deaths.
