Are you a mover, shaker, or a risk taker? Pursuing a career in business, or just want to become a well-rounded and educated person? Then become a part of Pitman High School’s FBLA chapter! Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is a nation-wide organization that encourages and educates young adults from all over the country and from dozens of different schools, in pursuing a career in business. It might sound a little boring at first, being a business oriented club, but it quickly becomes enjoyable! You experience a lot more than boring business calculations or wearing uptight formal business attire. Pitman’s FBLA has three main reasons as to why you should join this amazing club: for the experience, for what you learn, and above all, for the fun you will have!
With over one hundred members, Pitman FBLA is one of the biggest clubs on campus. Boasting several years of experience and awards, the club has not failed to impress. For the past several years, Pitman’s FBLA has consistently won events at sectionals, pushing the club to compete at the state level. Some of the competitive events include Public Speaking I-II, Intro to Business Communications, Business, Business Law, and many more. Don’t worry if these don’t sound very appealing, there are a variety of events that are sure to appeal to your interests. Competing in FBLA events however, means that you have to wear formal business attire. Yes, it may at times, be uncomfortable to wear such clothing, but FBLA has standards to be upheld, like the real competitive business world that we live in.
FBLA has a lot to offer in what you can learn about the business world. Every year Pitman FBLA attends the annual LDI conference for the Northern Central Section. This year, LDI (Leadership Development Institute), was held in Santa Clara, at the Marriot Hotel. At LDI FBLA participants were offered a variety of workshops that taught about essential business skills such as time management, public speaking, and effective communications. The overall trip took three days and two nights. Being a participant of LDI myself, I found it extremely educational and it’s definitely something I’m looking forward to next year. Officers of FBLA are also responsible for guiding its members in the right direction. Officer, Missy McClellan (Senior), held an after school session, teaching about financial literacy. If you need help in understanding anything business related, FBLA is definitely worth looking into!
FBLA is FUN! Fun? Yes it is! Even now after reading all the good reasons as to why you should join this wonderful club, you find yourself skeptical that such an educational and business-like organization could provide so much entertainment. Don’t worry it’s only natural to think that way. There are four reasons as to why FBLA is so much fun:
1.) Meet new people.
2.) Go on overnight trips.
3.) Compete in events.
4.) Experience new and exciting activities.
So if even after all this time you still have a shred of doubt of joining the club, then just go ahead and join it! How bad could it be? The Pitman FBLA experience is something that YOU should have! So join now!
