The Pitman’s Jazz Band joined with the Turlock Junior High School Jazz Band for a wonderful performance on November 19, 2012. The show began at 6:30 and lasted about an hour and a half. The Jazz Band made Pitman proud. The band was split into two groups; Pitman Ensemble A called the dark side, and Pitman Ensemble B called the light side. The Pitman side A plays A Night in Tunisia by Dizzy Gillespie, In a Sentimental Mood by Duke Ellington, Straight No Chaser by Thelonious Monk, and Chameleon by Herbie Hancock. The B side played many songs including Blues forAliceby Charlie Parker, Four by Miles Davis, Boblicity by Cleo Henry, and Watermelon Man by Herbie Hancock. The performancing included many solos from both sides. The soloist from the dark side included Robert Christiansen, Alex Modesto, Gary Dunn, Cyrus Elia, and much more. The solos from the light side included performances by Tyler Saunders, Emily Westlund, Weston Tilby, Aileen Ayala, and more. The band did a great job and when they went to their review to see how well they did, the Pitman Jazz Band side A got a trophy for their amazing work! The junior high band performed just as well and showed their skills with songs like My Last Nickel by Dean Sorensen and Domino by Van Morrison. Both performances were a hit! Great job everyone!
