Generation On made a difference Thursday the 8th by joining together as a club to help with The Operation Christmas Child project. Mrs. Staley and the officers helped coordinate the event. Great thanks to them! The idea is to fill shoe boxes or plastic containers with items for Christmas that will be distributed to children across the world. The boxes each contain an item from each category: something to love, something to wear, something to play with, something to learn and be entertained with, and something that promotes good health. Many club members showed up for the event and they all participated in some way. Many people brought items to pack into the boxes, and others provided the boxes. The club laid out all of the donated items on connected desks and worked in an assembly line fashion to fill each one. After the boxes were securely closed, the members filled out tags that stated whether the box was for a girl or a boy and what age group it was for. The age groups were 2-4, 5-9, and 10-14 years old. The tags were taped on the boxes, and a rubber band was put around them to make sure they didn’t open. Mrs. Staley is going to take them to the distribution centers for the clubs. The group packaged a total of 18 boxes. After they were done with their hard work, they enjoyed some pizza and talked about the wonderful project. Mrs. Staley students are also participating in the project and will bring boxes as well. The project was a huge success for the new club, and they are looking forward to many more upcoming events.
